Peg Solitaire is a single-player board game with roots stretching back to seventeenth-century France, traditionally played on a cross-shaped board of thirty-three holes filled with pegs everywhere except the very center. The rule that drives the whole puzzle is beautifully simple: you may jump any peg over an adjacent peg into an empty hole directly beyond it, in a straight line, and the peg you jumped over is then removed from the board entirely, exactly like a capture in checkers. Each jump reduces the peg count by exactly one, and the classic winning condition is to keep jumping strategically until only a single peg remains anywhere on the board. Achieving that perfect finish is much harder than it first appears, because careless early jumps frequently leave isolated pegs stranded with no legal moves left, ending your attempt well short of the goal. Success calls for genuine forward planning, since the consequences of a jump made early in the game often are not felt until many moves later. Tap a peg to select it and then tap a valid destination hole to complete the jump.
