Tower of Hanoi is a legendary mathematical puzzle invented in the late nineteenth century, often accompanied by a famous myth about monks slowly transferring sixty-four golden discs between three towers as a task said to take until the end of the world. This version uses a more approachable five discs of decreasing size, all stacked neatly on the first of three pegs in a clean pyramid from largest at the bottom to smallest at the top, and your goal is to move the entire stack over to the third peg while strictly obeying two simple rules: you may only move a single disc at a time, taken from the top of any stack, and you may never place a larger disc on top of a smaller one at any point during the process. The puzzle has a well-known mathematically optimal solution requiring exactly thirty-one moves for five discs, and working out that elegant recursive pattern, moving smaller sub-stacks out of the way to free up the disc beneath them, is a genuinely rewarding intellectual exercise. A running move counter tracks your efficiency against that theoretical minimum, turning every attempt into a fun personal challenge to solve it as cleanly as possible.
